If there is one thing you could take away from our recent webinar, it’s that digital health is here to stay. COVID-19 has in many ways surfaced and put a spotlight on some foundational challenges in the healthcare industry. Remote care, reimbursement, and real-world results are key to any solution.

Our Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Anand K. Iyer led the conversation as moderator, and we are very grateful for the industry leaders who joined us as panelists to discuss these issues further. 

Rose Maljanian is an accomplished senior executive driving innovation for over 30 years in the healthcare industry. She is currently Chairman & CEO of HealthCAWS, Inc. and serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Board for Population Health Alliance

“The field of digital health is exploding in terms of growth. When we look at the industry globally, $106 billion in 2019 projected to reach $639 billion in 2026,” Rose noted as she set the stage for the conversation and jumped into how this applies specifically to population health.

Christina Nyquist is Chief Strategy Officer for the Digital Therapeutics Alliance and has spent over 25 years at the center of healthcare policy in Washington, DC. Christina shared insight on how to determine if a digital health solution is effective with clinical integrity. She predicts, “In the future, you’re not going to be a credible payer unless you cover digital.”

Dr. Nichola Davis is a Vice President and Chief Population Health Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest public health system in the country. She discussed what providers can look for in a digital health solution in order to put it into real-world practice.

NYC Health + Hospitals also presented a poster at the American Diabetes Association’s annual meeting about their pilot study with Welldoc’s BlueStar®. She explained, “Our conclusion from the preliminary data is that using this app had a significant improvement for our patients in terms of improving their diabetes.”

To close, Anand asked, “What’s it going to take for us to drop the word digital and just call it health?” and Nichola quickly answered, “The evidence. As the evidence base builds, it will be indisputable.”

Digital Health is Health. It’s more mainstream than ever before, and certainly here to stay.
