H. Thomas Watkins served as the president and chief executive officer of Human Genome Sciences, Inc. and as a member of its board of directors from 2005 until August 2012, when Human Genome Sciences, Inc. was acquired by GlaxoSmithKline. Prior to his tenure at Human Genome Sciences, Inc., Tom served as president of TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Inc.
Tom previously held a series of executive positions over the course of nearly twenty years with Abbott Laboratories. He also serves on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), and has served as chair of the BIO Board of Directors. Previously he was appointed by Governor O’Malley to Chair the Life Sciences Advisory Board for the state of Maryland.
He holds a B.B.A. from the College of William and Mary and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
